I initially volunteered to work with ActionAid Ireland. ActionAid, at the time, were after hiring a number of excited young professionals, marketing team along with other communication savvy individuals. They began seeking out a developer and designer to fulfil their ideas and help bring them to fruition. I applied for what I thought would be a single short term project - design a brochure based on the brand guidelines that would be sent to prospective donators.
ActionAid is a global NGO but each branch operates independently, to an extent, and has to create it’s own campaigns whilst representing a number of developing countries. ActionAid Ireland represents Kenya, Uganda and Malawi in Africa and Nepal, Vietnam and Cambodia in Asia. There is crossover and collaboration between different branches but to what degree is up to each each individual unit. So, we had a lot of autonomy and over time we became a lot more confident in taking advantage of this.
